Well, it's been a while since I posted anything here. I've been taking a little break from baking for a couple weeks in between the practice run and the real wedding. It's coming up now, a month from today, so I'll be starting the prep work again pretty soon.
I finally finished David Lebovitz's Room for Dessert today, cover to cover, and it was AWESOME. Weird how I can read a cookbook for fun now. I did enjoy the author's discussions of the origins and possible variations of each recipe. Even the recipe instructions were written in a very conversational, but practical, tone. It would be a fun project, after the wedding is over, to try and work through each recipe in that book. Could be a new focus for the blog. It would defnitely be some good experience in the kitchen.
On a random trip to D.C. this weekend, I got to meet with Warren Brown of Cakelove. It was great getting to hear about some of his philosophy and business goals firsthand, especially after my little obsession with the company. Fortunately my friend Matt, the MBA, was there and helped me intelligently field some of the more business-oriented bits of the conversation. The pound cake parts, those were all me. If you're reading this, Warren, thanks for taking the time to meet with me! And Matt, thanks for being such a great host while I was in town.
