Focaccia with Blue Cheese, Honey, and Figs

Okay, first backlog posting... Focaccia with Blue Cheese, Honey, and Figs from www.mattbites.com. Took me forever to find figs, probably because this was right around the end of the fig season. I tried half a dozen grocery stores before I finally found some at a gourmet market in La Jolla. Of course.

I gotta admit, even though figs were kind of the point of this recipe, they were probably my least favorite part. Maybe it was because it was the end of the fig season and they were past their prime. Or maybe I'm just not a big fresh fig person. Who knows? At least I still love the Newtons. The focaccia itself... great. The combination of honey and blue cheese... also great. Eating the whole thing in 48 hours... maybe a little much.

Instant Espresso

So, I finally finally found a place to buy instant espresso. A whole bunch of my dessert cookbooks call for it, but I haven't been able to find it at a grocery store anywhere. I've even searched the fancy yuppie stores and a bunch of ethnic markets. I finally found it today at a little Italian import place in San Diego's Little Italy neighborhood. Seriously, I've been looking for this stuff for years.

I know, I know... I've been really bad about updating the blog lately. I actually have had several new baking projects, but with moving into and setting up my new place, I just haven't had the time to really sit down and write about them. I promise to catch up on the backlog shortly, so stay tuned!
